Porsche 911 (992) GT3
The 991 generation Porsche 911 GT3 is a force to reckon with. It is fast, powerful, handles like a dream, and quite reliable too. In fact, if you describe it as the perfect supercar, you won't wrong.
So how was Porsche going to replace an already 'perfect car'? Well, with an even better car.If there ever was a company that would pass this test, it'd be Porsche, and a glance at the new car's spec-sheet will tell you why.
The all-new 911 GT3 comes with several improvements over its predecessor. It handles better, has a slightly more powerful engine, a better suspension and braking system, and a lot more downforce.
Engine and Performance
The 992 generation GT3 comes with a bigger 4.0 liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine that produces 502hp (10 hp more than its predecessor) and 346 lb-ft of torque. Porsche claims the engine is "virtually identical" to the one in the new GT3 Cup race car.
The engine works in sync with a seven-speed automatic transmission system that Porsche emphasizes was developed specifically for the new car. A six-speed manual transmission is also available for buyers who prefer a more "hands-on" approach.
The 992 GT3 does 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds, and enthusiasts will be happy to know that the car completed a lap at the Nürburgring 12 seconds quicker than its predecessor. Its top track speed is stated as 197mph.
Handling, Aerodynamics, and Weight
A major advantage point for the 911 GT3 has always been the car's handling, and the new car far exceeds the standards set by its predecessors.
A double-wishbone axle at the front coupled with a new rear-wheel steering configuration means that the new car handles like a dream, especially around corners.
The car's handling is made even better thanks to increased downforce. This increase can be attributed to several tweaks in the car's design, chief among them being the new car's adjustable front spoiler, cooling intakes, a redesigned rear wing and an improved rear diffuser.
Despite all these improvements, the new GT3 is also a pretty light vehicle weighing in at just 1,418kg. Porsche attributes the car's weight savings to the fact that carbon fiber was liberally used on the body.
Exterior and Interior
Given Porsche's design language, the new car was always going to be quite similar to its predecessors in design. However, the swan-neck rear wing stands out. It's a refreshing update compared to the awkward rear wing of the current model.
On the inside, the 2022 GT3 is more like the standard 911 Carrera, with the major difference being that it is a two-seater (assuming you want to count the barely existent rear seats in the Carrera). New for the GT3 is the drive mode switch found on the steering wheel. The PDK gear selector has also been redesigned to look more like and manual shifter.
Four-way Sport Seats Plus come as standard, while 18-way Sport Seats Plus and carbon fiber Bucket Seats are available as options. The Chrono package option is also available for those looking to give the interior a sportier feel.
Time to get in line for the fall 2021 launch as we all know this beast will be hard to get. Why won't Porsche just make enough of these things?
