The New Jaguar F-Type
Most people will agree that the current Jaguar F-TYPE is stunning. It is one of award-winning designer, Ian Callum’s best designs. After he moved on from Jaguar, fans wondered what will become of the design brilliance that had become synonymous with Jaguar cars. On Monday, Jaguar unveiled a new F-TYPE, which is strikingly beautiful and a true embodiment of the Jaguar brand. While the new design isn’t a huge departure from the existing one, the new elements indicate that the new design director, Julian Thomas is up to the task of maintaining the status quo.
Powerful Engines
The new F-TYPE comes with one of four engines that are quite responsive and deliver a decent amount of power. All the engines are mated to an eight-speed Quickshift transmission that offers full manual control using steering-wheel-mounted paddles or the SportShift gear selector.
The four powertrains that power the Jaguar F-TYPE are the 300PS turbocharged four-cylinder, the 380PS supercharged V6, the 450PS supercharged V8, and the 575PS supercharged V8. For those who opt for the 450PS and 575PS V8 engines, they will get the new Quick Start function, which helps to ensure a more refined and subtle sound.
The 450PS V8 can deliver 580Nm of torque that is generated from just 2500rpm. It comes as an all-wheel-drive or as a rear-wheel- drive. Both can move from 0 to 60 MPH in 4.4 seconds and have a top speed of 177 MPH.
The 575PS V8 powertrain is even more impressive. It can deliver maximum torque of 700Nm and can move from 0 to 60 MPH in 3.5 seconds. It has an electronically-limited top speed of 186MPH.
Enhanced Driver Experience
There is increased technology focus in the new car. This includes a reconfigurable high definition 12.3-inch TFT instrument cluster, Touch Pro infotainment system, and a Smartphone Pack that comes with Apply CarPlay as standard. Over-the-air software update capabilities have also been included.
For sound, Jaguar has stayed with Meridian sound systems. The F-TYPE also features a Spotify app, which will allow Spotify Premium customers to access the Spotify library.
Exterior Design
Jaguar combined the best technologies with high-end materials and finishes to create a stunning ride both inside and outside.
Some of the noteworthy upgrades are the enlarged grille and front bumper. Coupled with the “liquid metal” surfacing of the re-designed clamshell hood, they help to accentuate the new F-TYPE’s assertive stance. Most notable in the new car’s exterior are the slimmer headlights, which help the vehicle accentuate its intimidating wild cat look.
Interior Design
In the interior, Jaguar’s craftsmanship is easy to spot. The brand uses luxury contemporary materials such as satin-finish Noble Chrome and Windsor Leather. To enhance its elegance, Jaguar added some exquisite monogram stitch patterns in the door trim, seats, and the Jaguar Leaper motif found on the headrests.
The new F-TYPE appears to be another impressive engineering feat by Jaguar. We can’t wait to hear what the F-TYPE is most noted for, the incredible exhaust note.
