The joy of owning a hypercar should be driving it, but it's no secret that many hypercars simply can't handle the rigors of regular driving, let alone driving it daily. There are a few exceptions, and it may come as a surprise to some that Bugatti is one of them. In fact, Bugatti is considered to be the most reliable hypercar brand.
The company credits itself with creating the hypercar class, and it encourages its loyal customers to drive their cars at events like the Bugatti Grand Tour. Similar to tours organized by other marques, it takes participants along scenic routes, with stops at select locations where they can get to know one another while enjoying beautiful scenery and exquisite gastronomy.
The 2026 tour took participants to South Africa in what can only be described as an epic journey. It's no secret that Fortloc champions scenic drives in many of the world's exotic locations, but we're yet to do something in Africa. The 2026 Bugatti Tour has us thinking it's time to change that.
So, what makes the tour so special? First, the customer-owned cars were prepped at the marque's Molsheim facility and shipped to Cape Town, where the excursion started. The participants gathered at Table Mountain, where panoramic views will leave any visitor in awe, with Table Bay being the highlight.
Present for the tour were Bugatti executives, Mate Rimac, CEO of Bugatti Rimac, Hendrik Malinowski Managing Director of Bugatti, and Christophe Piochon, President of Bugatti Automobile. If you recently discovered something about your Bugatti you don't particularly care for, that sounds like a good set of people to inform.
The official kickoff location was Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa. It happens to be the largest museum in the world dedicated to contemporary African art. The tour proceeded from Cape Town along the curves of Chapman's Peak Drive, a well-known coastal road that simply makes a strong case for being penciled down as a highlight for every scenic drive in the area.
The surreal views here include magnificent coastal landscapes, along cliffside roads above the ocean, taking the party to the promontory of the Cape of Good Hope.
The tour passed through the Valley of the Tulbagh, a fascinating place almost completely surrounded by mountains. It is renowned for winemaking and the preservation of Cape Dutch architecture, with the whitewashed facades of many buildings revealing European influences.
A journey like this can't afford to ignore Cape Agulhas, the southernmost point of the continent, where the Atlantic meets the Indian Ocean. It is a place that inspires fantasies of identifying the dividing line between these two oceans.
The Wilderness of Kwandwe followed, where guests were able to observe animals such as leopards, elephants, and lions in their natural (protected) habitat. Activities included storytelling around a bonfire at sunset. That's a tradition shared across many African countries, as folktales across the continent reveal.
Other places along the route included the beautiful landscapes of the Klein Karoo semi-arid valley (also known as Little Karoo), the Route 62 wine route, and Paternoster, one of the oldest fishing villages on the country's west coast. The tour ended in Cape Winelands, the wine-producing region with mountain and valley vistas, the perfect culmination of an amazing trip.
We've explored multiple experiences offered by car manufacturers and designed many of our own, but this one has inspired us to consider a place that wasn't on our radar.
No doubt the loyal Bugatti customers had the time of their lives, but even if you're not planning to join the Bugatti family, perhaps the journey through some of the best scenery in South Africa has convinced you to consider a trip to the country.
