From time to time, Ferrari unveils a one-off car. A commission by one of their most loyal fans. The design of these cars is usually inspired by previous Ferrari models with a powertrain similar to one of the more current models. The SC40 is the most recent of these one-offs, and it doesn’t take a genius to know the Ferrari model that inspired its design.
That honor goes to the 1987 F40, which many car enthusiasts consider to be a legendary model (even the ones who are not necessarily fans of the Prancing Horse). Concerning its internals, those are taken from the 296 GTB. Speaking of the 296, the SC40 looks like a cross between the 290 and the F40. Think of it as what the F40 would look like if it was designed in the last couple of years.
Powertrain

The SC40 adopts the 296 GTB’s turbo-hybrid V6 layout: a 120° 2992 cm³ engine paired with a hybrid system for a maximum output of 610 kW (830 cv) at 8000 rpm and 740 Nm at 6250 rpm. It revs to 8500 rpm with a 9.4:1 compression ratio and uses a 7.45 kWh high-voltage battery.
On transmission duty is an 8-speed F1 DCT, along with high-performance ABS/EBD with energy recovery. Ferrari lists reference performance figures from the 296 GTB: 0 to 62mph in 2.9 seconds and a top speed just north of 205 mph.
Exterior

Paying tribute to the F40, the SC40 blends sharp, angular cues with softer transitions to create its own identity. Proportions include a long, low nose, short rear overhang, and a high fixed rear wing finished in bespoke SC40 White. The wing visually flows from the flanks and merges with the engine cover, divided by a black separation line above a black rear fascia.
The rear is an open mesh that reveals mechanical and structural components, with smoked Lexan® louvres showcasing the V6 and echoing smaller louvres carved into the muscular rear wings. A centrally mounted, additively manufactured exhaust with titanium and carbon-fiber tips sits beneath taillights that hint at the 296 GTB.
The side view reinterprets classic NACA-style intercooler intakes, highlighted by a triangular carbon-fiber plate and a “visual rhythm” of vertical lines shaping the front-wing edges, door cuts, and engine-cover geometry.

In front, outer-corner headlights sit in a black housing that drops to meet a full-width lower intake. Rectangular frames define redesigned brake-cooling apertures with daytime running lights above.
The wheels, which were designed specifically for the SC40, combine brushed metal on diamond-cut surfaces with black spokes. The SC40 badge appears only on the right-hand wing upright; fuel-filler and charging caps are brushed aluminum, and “Ferrari” is rendered in negative on the rear engine cover to reveal the carbon beneath.
Interior

The cabin reinterprets Kevlar - associated with the F40 - using carbon-Kevlar in the footwells, behind the seats, on parts of the floor mats, the steering wheel, selected dashboard inserts, the engine bay, and the luggage compartment. The upholstery pairs Charcoal Alcantara® with a red Jacquard technical fabric, along with Prancing Horse headrest embroidery and a woven SC40 for an exclusive look.
Suppose you’re looking at this car and thinking to yourself, I need one of these, you have two options: Somehow find the owner and make him an offer he can’t refuse (the legal kind) or convince Ferrari to make one for you too. You’ll need a lot of luck and a very fat wallet to pull either option off.
