MB&F Longhorn Timepiece

MB&F (Maximilian Büsser & Friends) marks its 20th anniversary with the introduction of two exclusive timepieces that showcase its mechanical mastery and innovative spirit. The brand, known for its bold haute horology designs, announced the LM Perpetual Longhorn and the LM Sequential Flyback Longhorn. Both are special editions of timepieces (just 20 pieces each) that are a tribute to the brand's groundbreaking horology and bold signature avant-garde styling.

With distinctive elongated "longhorn" lugs, stainless steel cases, glossy black lacquer subdials, and contrasting blue hands, these watches blend MB&F's rich history with cutting-edge mechanical advancements. While neither watch design departs from the collection it is derived from, the unique color selection makes them stand out.

The LM Perpetual Longhorn is an evolution of MB&F's perpetual calendar introduced in 2015. Independent watchmaker, Stephen McDonnell collaborated on the design that redefined the traditional perpetual calendar mechanism by eliminating its most common weaknesses. Unlike conventional systems that default to 31-day months and "delete" extra days, MB&F's mechanical processor starts from a 28-day base and adds days as necessary, preventing issues like skipped dates or jamming gears.

The movement has 581 components arranged in an open-worked display that highlights its complexity. Its double mainspring barrels provide an impressive 72-hour power reserve, ensuring consistent energy flow and precision. A prominent feature of the LM Perpetual Longhorn is its power reserve indicator, integrated into the movement's architecture. The high-gloss black lacquer subdials contrast against the raw mechanics beneath, giving the watch a bold and sophisticated look.

The stainless steel case of the LM Perpetual Longhorn measures 44mm in diameter and retains MB&F's signature domed sapphire crystal that provides a great view of the intricate movement. The polished longhorn lugs, a revived design concept from MB&F's early sketches, add a sculptural elegance while maintaining ergonomic comfort.

The LM Sequential Flyback Longhorn, the second timepiece in the anniversary collection, takes MB&F's first chronograph to the next level. The original LM Sequential EVO, launched in 2022, introduced a dual chronograph system powered by MB&F's patented Twinverter switch, which allows multiple timing modes.

The system enables independent, simultaneous, or split-second timing, making it one of the most versatile chronographs ever developed. Never one to shy away from complexity, the timepiece includes a Flyback function that enables users to instantly reset and restart the chronograph.

With 619 components driving its movement, the LM Sequential Flyback Longhorn is an exceptional feat of micro-engineering. The skeletonized design reveals the intricate network of levers, wheels, and bridges that power the timekeeping functions. Like the perpetual calendar, this model is housed in a 44mm stainless steel case with a domed sapphire crystal, allowing an immersive view of the mechanism.

The lacquered black subdials provide a sleek, high-contrast aesthetic that enhances legibility while maintaining a striking presence on the wrist. The polished elongated longhorn lugs extend dramatically from the case and reinforce the watch's bold and dynamic personality.

Both Longhorn editions feature MB&F's signature dual mainspring barrels with a 72-hour power reserve for optimal performance. The watches are water-resistant to 30 meters, preserving their delicate mechanics while offering practical durability. Both also share a nice-looking calf leather strap with a stainless steel buckle.

The Longhorn collection pays tribute to MB&F's two-decade-long haute horology journey, celebrating its achievements and hinting at what the future holds. With only 20 pieces of each model available, these timepieces are destined to become coveted collector's items.
