The Monte-Carlo Golf Club, established in 1911, is a premier golfing destination located on the scenic heights of La Turbie near Mont Angel. What used to be a disputed summit became a residential area around the period of the club's construction.
Also known as Mont Angel Golf Club, this prestigious club, with an 18-hole course, stands about 2700 feet (900 meters) above sea level. Its exquisite blend of challenging play and breathtaking views make it a must-visit for golf enthusiasts on vacation in Monaco. It's as close as one can get to 'golfing paradise'.
The club is a great example of the enduring appeal of classic golf course design, set against the stunning natural beauty of the French Riviera. Whether you are a seasoned golfer or a casual enthusiast, a visit to the Monte-Carlo Golf Club promises a memorable and enchanting experience. Guests at Hotel de Paris Monte-Carlo and Hotel Hermitage Monte-Carlo (SBM Gold card holders) get a special rate for access to the club.
The location's elevation provides stunning panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding Alpine summits. This unique vantage point offers players a spectacular backdrop as they navigate the undulating fairways and greens.
While not strictly within the borders of Monaco, the club is only 24 minutes away from the heart of Monte-Carlo. This makes it a popular destination for those seeking a blend of sport and luxury. Guests can access the onsite chalet-style clubhouse with a Pro Shop, restaurant, and bar that provides a welcoming atmosphere for members and guests. Equipment rental is also available, so you can leave your favorite golf bag at home.
The Monte-Carlo Golf Club has a storied history. It was founded under Société des Bains de Mer (SBM), the prominent Monegasque company responsible for Monaco's best-known luxurious hotels and casinos.

The course was designed by the legendary Scottish professional golfer and course architect Willie Park Jr. Known for his meticulous attention to detail and his ability to integrate natural landscapes into his designs, Park ensured that the Monte-Carlo Golf Club would be both a challenging and aesthetically pleasing course.
Over the decades, the Monte-Carlo Golf Club has hosted numerous prestigious events. These include the Monte-Carlo Open, a European Tour event that attracted top golfers like Seve Ballesteros and Ian Woosnam. It also hosted the inaugural Princess of Monaco Cup, a charity event to benefit the Princess Charlene Foundation. The event had celebrity participants, including current and past F1 drivers Charles Lerclec, David Coulthard, and Mika Hakkinen.
Over the years, the course has been meticulously maintained and modernized. Yet, it retains the core design principles laid out by Park Jr. Improvements such as the creation of a large pond and the installation of an automatic watering system have elevated the course's profile while preserving its historic charm.
The Monte Carlo Golf Club is a place all visitors to the principality should visit. Even if you don't like golf, the view of the mountains and the Mediterranean Sea will leave you speechless. While you're here, you might as well take some time to explore Mont Angel and La Turbie.
