Karma Automotive unveiled its SC2 concept car at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show and AutoMobility LA. This concept car is fitted with innovative design features and technology. The SC2 aims to showcase some of the carmaker’s cutting-edge design and intellectual property. So, is it worthy?
Performance and Unique Features
The SC2 can deliver a maximum of 1100 HP and can move from 0 to 60mph in just 1.9 seconds. It features a pair of twin electric motors mounted at the rear and front of the car. These motors can deliver a maximum of 800 kW and a torque of 10,500 lb/ft. The vehicle has a maximum pure electric range of 350 miles.
Electric power is stored in an I-shaped 120 kWh battery that is located in a center-tunnel situated below the seats and dashboard. It is fitted with carbon-ceramic brakes as well as a torque-vectoring gearbox. The car is also equipped with a push-rod operated suspension system for an improved driving experience. For better privacy and light-sensitivity control, the car features electro-chromatic glass that can change from clear to opaque.
This hypercar also features an ultrasonic dynamic regenerative panel that ensures high-performance handling.
According to the company’s VP for Global Design and Architecture, Andreas Thurner, the car is an “optimistic and bold” statement about the future of Karma. It demonstrates that the company is willing to take on the challenge of elevating the driving experience. He goes on to state that the SC2 has enabled the company to enhance the thrill of the open road using the company’s innovative patented technology.
The innovative Drive and Play Technology
One of the most innovative features of the SC2 is Karma’s proprietary “Drive and Play” technology. This technology allows drivers to relive their past driving experiences via a simulated experience inside the car. To do this, the company has fitted a triple high-definition camera under the windshield. There are also lidar sensors located on the car’s exterior to allow for 3D capture of the vehicle while it is in motion.
The SC2 also features intelligent technology that captures all of the driver’s actions and experiences in real-time. These include braking, turns, acceleration, sounds, audio playlist, and air temperature. While parked, the car can replay the entire journey using a laser projector. With this, drivers can fine-tune their skills. The vehicle also allows drivers to share the experience with others via an online platform.
The SC2 is an embodiment of Karma’s technology-focused vision of the future. Both the interior and the exterior of the car are fitted with innovative features that might soon debut in the company’s future models. There’s certainly enough here to keep Karma fans very excited.
