The all-new and eagerly anticipated Koenigsegg Gemera is here. Koenigsegg, the company behind the car seems as excited as we are, with the company using all sorts of monikers to describe the vehicle when it was unveiled.
In what the company dubs as a Mega-GT, the Gemera is a first for the Swedish company on two fronts. One, it is the company’s first-ever four-seater and two, it is the company’s first car with a three-cylinder engine.
While both those “firsts” might make you think the Gemera is a relatively slow car, think again! Nothing could be further from the truth.
The Gemera comes with a charming 2.0 Litre 3-cylinder engine, and Koenigsegg has a rather catchy name for it; Tiny Friendly Giant. The engine is supported by three electric motors with one placed on each rear wheel and one on the crankshaft of the engine.
True to its name, the car’s powertrain produces a gigantic 1700bhp and 3500nm of torque. All this power enables the Gemera to race from 0-60mph in a mind-blowing *clears throat* 1.9 seconds! Yes! 1.9 seconds. The company also claims that the Gemera hits 400km/hr at “record matching pace” (whatever that means).
Speaking about the car’s performance, the company’s CEO and founder Christian von Koenigsegg had this to say: “Ultimate performance has belonged to the world of two-seaters with very limited luggage space – until now.”
He adds: “The Gemera is a completely new category of car where extreme mega car meets spacious interior and ultimate environmental consciousness. We call it a Mega-GT.”
The Gemera comes with an 800V battery that adds a range of 50km to the car in EV mode and is also capable of running the car up to speeds of up to 300km/hr.
In addition to electric power and regular petro, the Gemera can also run on second-generation ethanol, CO2-neutral methanol, and E85 fuel.
The interior of the Gemera comes fitted with all the things that you would expect in modern high-end family vehicles. Amenities like front and back infotainment systems, wireless chargers, Apple car play, an 11 speaker sound system, reading lights, and cup holders, among others, are available.
The car comes equipped with all-wheel drive, all-wheel steering and all-wheel torque vectoring systems to ensure that drivers have complete control of the car at whatever speeds they might be driving at.
The Gemera brings a truly unique perspective to what a high-performance car can be and it remains to be seen whether other car manufacturers will follow suit.
Only 300 units of the Gemera will be produced and the car’s prices are still unclear at this point. However, we’ll definitely keep you posted if there is any new information concerning the car.
