Brabham Automotive announced a return to the track of the Brabham badged BT62, which now has three variants. The Road Compliant variant and the Ultimate Track BT62 are now joined by the Competition spec version which is a lighter and slightly stripped-down model perfect for the track.
While only 70 of the 2020 BT62 will be made, irrespective of variant, the manufacturer has left the door wide open to making sure customers will receive the vehicle they want. Choices include the original “Celebration” or “Signature” packages as well as picking from the left or right-handed drive. In addition, the competition-spec variant can be fully modified to either the Ultimate Track Car or Road Compliant setups depending on the owner’s market.
According to Brabham, the 2020 Competition specification will be a stripped back and lighter model than the full-specification Ultimate Track version. It will also include a “Celebration” or bespoke wrap rather than exterior paint and exposed interior carbon. Also, keeping with the stripped-down theme to be better suited for the track, the Competition Spec version comes with no interior trim or passenger seat.
No worries, owners can add things back as options and extras as noted above. However, that may be dependant on the laws in the car owners marketplace relevant to transforming race cars to street-legal vehicles.
The 2020 Competition Spec BT62, while lacking consumer streetcar bells and whistles, will still have the performance of the Ultimate Track version complete with a 5.4 liter naturally aspirated V8 engine delivering 700hp. A 6-speed sequential gearbox allows for quick selection by the driver while riding in an FIA compliant carbon-Chromoly safety cell and integrated roll cage.
The Competition Spec version will also have new “advanced” aerodynamics features that provide 1200kg of downforce as well as carbon-on-carbon brakes, and motorsport styled ABS and traction control systems for better handling and “unrivaled” on-track stopping power and control. Other features include locking wheels, pneumatic jacking system, and competition-ready gauge display. Racers will also appreciate the specially designed lightweight, removable, multi-function steering wheel.
The Brabham 2020 Competition Spec BT62 will begin showing up at competitions soon. It’s a perfect addition to the line featuring the Brabham Automotive BT62 Road Compliant variant and the Ultimate Track version.
