We like to think of Miami as the crown jewel of South Florida. However, the Magic City isn’t for everyone. From the ever-increasing condominium towers in Brickell to the endless parties in South Beach's Art Deco enclaves, its big-town vibe is something many would rather avoid.
If you prefer a more laid-back atmosphere, the good news is South Florida has a few incredible options as you drive north from Miami. Palm Beach is one of the best-known, but Wellington is a lesser-known option you simply can’t overlook.
In addition to being a tranquil place, Wellington is the equestrian capital of South Florida (second only to Ocala/Marion County in the US). You’ll love it if you enjoy activities like polo, show jumping, or dressage.
Outside of polo, I’m not too keen on equestrian sports, but Wellington left quite an impression on me during my first visit, when we had polo jerseys designed by one of the top polo equipment suppliers in the area.
If you’re thinking of moving to South Florida or considering a second home, there is a new development that could make you pull the trigger.
The 400-acre private club community, The Wellington, is a new development in the area that seems to check all the boxes. Once completed, the development, which sits next to the Wellington International Showgrounds, will have 253 homes. These will include half-acre estate homes, equestrian villas, lakeside townhomes, and condominiums.
The community will welcome you with ‘The Marketplace,’ a commercial area with a boutique hotel, retail/dining outlets, and office/event spaces. That means residents won’t need to go far for shopping or fine dining. Visitors to Palm Beach County staying at the hotel will also get an opportunity to enjoy some of the best of the community.
The star of the development is a 136-acre David McLay Kidd-designed 18-hole golf course. It anchors the development and should offer wonderful scenery, in addition to being a great place for a round of golf.
The landscape and structures are being put together by a dream team of architects and designers from companies including Workshop/APD, Morris Adjmi Architects, Squire & Partners, D Stanley Dixon, and LaGuarda Design Group, all aiming to build a dream location that blends well into the environment.
The development is split into north and south sections, with the first set of 49 four- to eight-bedroom estate homes in The Wellington North section set to go on sale.
The homes will offer seamless integration between the generous proportions of the interior and the well appointment outdoor spaces with private pools and beautiful landscaping. The perfect place to put your feet up while you enjoy the climate that continues to draw people to South Florida.
The properties in The Wellington North cluster around the recreational area, which includes a fitness center & spa, racquet sports areas, and swimming pools. The homes start at $10 million.
