Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2

Spotting a healthy 620hp, the next generation Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 is here, and it’s a stunner.

A natural successor to the Huracan Super Trofeo Evo that was unveiled in 2017, the new car comes with a few ideas of its own and seeks to provide a few clues to what future Lamborghini cars will look like (that includes street-legal models).

In case you didn’t know, Super Trofeo cars are built for drivers taking part in Lamborghini’s one-make racing series. The championship is organized by Lamborghini’s racing division known as Squadra Course.

Engine

While not as costly as the Huracan GT3 EVO, the Super Trofeo EVO2 comes with the familiar naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V-10 engine. Loved for its out worldly sound, the engine produces 620hp in this case and is mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox that channels the car’s horses through the rear wheels.

You’d be mistaken if you think the new car is all about the powertrain. The EVO2 is a stunner that Lamborghini claims is representative of what will follow in the near future.

Design

The car’s exterior doesn’t deviate from the all too familiar design language we’ve grown to expect from Lamborghini cars. Though, many will say that it looks a lot meaner than previous iterations of the Super Trofeo and almost all the cars the company has ever made. Perhaps, with the exception of the Huracan STO. However, that’s likely to be the subject of debate among Lamborghini fans, and there’s practically no chance of arriving at a consensus.

The Italian company says that most of the design changes were made in the name of better aerodynamic efficiency, but the overall result is much more pleasing to the eye for those attracted to the Lamborghini design DNA.

At the front, the EVO2's slimmer LED lights grab all the headlines, while narrower front air intakes and a Huracan STO-like 'omega' lip that joins the carbon-fiber fins are some of the noteworthy changes. A peep through the car’s front rims will reveal larger 390mm front discs with calipers that can accommodate pads with a new design and a larger surface area which should result in better performance.

Turn over to the back, and Lamborghini Countach-inspired taillights along with a gigantic carbon-fiber wing are out to seek your attention.

For "optimal surface continuity", the car's rear fenders are composed of a single element that includes part of the car's side spoiler. A newly-designed arched carbon-fiber bumper that links the car's aerodynamic appendages to the redesigned diffuser fins is worth a mention too. The Italian company didn’t say a thing about the car's interior. However, being a track-only car, it's safe to assume there won’t be much to rave about.

The Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 will make its public debut on May 28 in Le Castellet, France, at the second round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe series. The car carries a 250,000 Euro (about $305,000) price tag. Owners of the out-going EVO will have access to an upgrade kit Lamborghini will make available in 2022. That should keep the EVO2 envy to a minimum.
