The Porsche Taycan is Here

First announced as the Mission E sedan and teased for what seems like all of eternity for hardcore Porsche fans, the long-awaited Taycan is finally available for purchase. There will be two variants of the car; the more powerful Taycan Turbo S and the Taycan Turbo. Don’t be fooled by the Turbo name though; this is an all-electric vehicle.

Engine and Performance

The Taycan is Porsche’s first all-electric car, and as such, the company’s popular combustion engines will not be present here, but that doesn’t mean that the Tycan isn’t powerful.

The S version can generate 560 kW while the Turbo gets up to 500 kW. The Turbo S accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds while its lesser sibling completes the sprint in 3.2 seconds. Both models have a top speed of 260 km/hr.

The Tycan is equipped with a massive 93.4 KW battery which powers two electric motors with one placed on each axel. Porsche boasts that this is the first production car with 800 volts and it gives the Taycan a massive advantage in terms of charging speeds. The company says a 5-minute charge could add a range of 100km to the battery, and that the car can charge from 5 to 80 percent in 22.5 minutes.

The Tycan has a two-speed transmission system with the first gear helping with better acceleration from the starting position while the second, with long gear ratio, ensures efficiency at high speeds.

Exterior

The Taycan while not suffering from the exterior design flaws of the first-generation Panamera has unfortunately lost some of the breathtaking esthetics of the original concept. However, it still has the Porsche DNA running through its veins, and this is evidenced in the unmistakeable wide and flat front, coupled with highly contoured wings. The LED front lights also offer a nice touch.

At the back, Porsche has integrated a glass-effect logo in the light bar that stretches from one end to the other.

Interior

While the Taycan may look familiar on the outside, there has been a complete overhaul on the inside. The standout features of the interior are the newly designed digital instrument display and the beautiful 10.9-inch infotainment touchscreen display.

Porsche has all also done away with leather in the interior, replacing it with recycled materials in line with the theme of sustainability that is often synonymous with electric cars.

For the past few years, Porsche has been teasing us with updates on its first electronic car, and now that it is here, it’s safe to say that it might have been worth the wait. Fans will get an opportunity to drool over the car at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. Meanwhile, the configuration page is already available for those who want to order one.
