Mercedes Benz World – Something for everyone
A few miles away from the city of London is the small town of Weybridge, Surrey, home of Mercedes Benz World. In addition to offering a fantastic amount of Mercedes eye candy, they provide driving experiences for AMG cars. Not unlike other manufacturer experiences, the track they have isn’t really a race track so you can’t toss the cars around to your satisfaction. However, you do get the opportunity to try out the car’s capabilities under different driving conditions.
Being a manufacturer experience, of course you’ll only have access to AMG cars. They have a good number of these including the AMG GTR. Oddly enough, they didn’t have the C63 AMG coupe available to drive which was a little odd and inexcusable since they had one on display.
The customer service here was excellent. I walked in without a reservation to drive the AMG GTR, and the lady at the front desk seemed to go out of her way to make sure I got a chance to drive one. Considering how much these experiences cost, you’d think this situation should be typical. Sadly, it isn’t.
There was no safety briefing before driving. However, it’s worth mentioning that there isn’t much a track straightaway to go fast on so you’re not likely to ever be in any real danger.
The race track here is a toy, and Mercedes knows it. It’s fair to mention though that they have multiple courses which isn’t something you encounter at most driving experiences. The fair track to compare it to is the Porsche Experience track in LA which has more features.
You’re liable for damages to the tune of ₤1,500. You can push your liability down to 0 by paying an additional ₤20.
Let’s try to describe the video quality subtly: It’s absolutely hideous. Save your money and don’t bother. The USB stick (which is quite nice), is way more impressive than the video it contains.
Given the nature of the track, it’s essential for one to realize what is being offered. This experience isn’t much more than a lengthy test drive so don’t expect too much. Having said that, when compared to conventional driving experiences, you do spend a lot more time with each car here (1 hour for the GTR experience which includes a 30-minute drive in the CLS AMG).
