EXR HPDE – When it’s time to step up…

EXR Student

When driving a super car on a race track isn’t enough to satisfy your thirst for racing, the logical next step is a high-performance driving experience (HPDE). Unlike most driving experiences we cover, a HPDE gives the participant detailed instructions about how to handle a high-performance car on a race track. This goes well beyond the normal safety briefing at regular super car driving experiences. The EXR (Exotics Racing) HPDE program is a very good example. While the program is significantly more expensive when compared to a regular super car driving experience, it’s certainly worth the money. You get an opportunity to choose one of 3 super cars and you also get to dress up like a real race car driver. All the other guests will think you actually know what you’re doing.

Cost

At the time of writing, the EXR HPDE program cost between $1890 – $2290 depending on the car you choose. If you’re a repeat customer, be sure to let them know as you may be offered a discount. EXR offers 3 different cars to choose from:

1. Porsche 991 GT3

2. Ferrari 458 Italia

3. Lamborghini Huracan

While the cost may seem high, it is comparable to the cost of other HPDE programs.

Program Details

The HPDE program is a full day program. You start with a classroom briefing that goes into details about how to drive on a race track. After that, you get to pick out your racing gear and jump into the car for your first of 3 driving sessions (10 laps each). Between the driving sessions, you go through a de-briefing session where your instructor shows you driving telemetry and lets you know what you can do better. In between all that you get a tour of the EXR workshop (EXR has a racing series) where you can enjoy Batak and a VR race simulator. Oh, and we shouldn’t forget that lunch is part of the program (I swear EXR has the best tasting Fanta in America).

Race Track

The race track is the same as the one used in EXR’s normal super car driving program. It’s a great beginner race track.

Damage Liability

Full insurance with no deductible is included in the price you pay for the experience.

Experience Video

Just like the super car videos, the branding on the HPDE videos is excessive.

Bottom Line

The EXR HPDE is certainly a great way to learn how to properly drive a high-performance car on a race track. If you’re wondering if this program is worth it, let me erase any doubt that you have. This is a good program. The one-on-one tutoring is great and the attention to detail is really remarkable. Not to mention the fact that you’re treated like royalty with briefings in a private conference room you have to yourself for the whole day.
